Lumos' LSX is a Part of Daily Life at Iolani School on Oahu

Founded in 1863, the Iolani School has over 150 years of history that is interwoven with the story and sustainable values of Hawaii. To contribute to the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative, in 2011, Iolani School began their solar program, installing more than 2,000 photovoltaic panels. The program has continued to the present with panels covering almost every building of the campus and, most recently, the school installed a unique LSX solar stairway canopy array.

With most panels having been installed on the roofs of the buildings, there is no visible reminder of the sustainable efforts of the school. However, the new LSX solar stairwell canopy now provides a daily reminder for students and visitors of the school's efforts.
 
Lumos Solar collaborated with the array designer, Hawaii Architecture, and installer, Solar Wave Hawaii, to ensure that the array would take full advantage of the LSX frameless solar panels features. The result is an architecturally beautiful and structurally functional array that provides shade and protection from the elements as students move between buildings.
