Aercoustics is Choice of Ontario's Major Wind Power Developers for Noise Emission Testing on Wind Turbines

Aercoustics Engineering Limited has been retained by the major wind power developers in Ontario to test the noise levels of their wind turbines. The Toronto-based company is the only one in Canada recognized to certify noise levels from wind turbines.

In fact, very few companies in the world are accredited to do this complex and rigorous assessment. Aercoustics recently achieved its ISO 17025:2005 accreditation to conduct acoustic measurements of wind turbines in accordance with the International Electrotechnical Commission 61400-11 standard. Since becoming accredited, Aercoustics has become the supplier of choice to companies such as Capital Power Corporation and Pattern Energy Group LP.

“By securing our accreditation, Ontario wind developers no longer have to bring in engineers outside of Canada to meet the industry-standard guidelines so they can access our expertise at a lower cost,” said Payam Ashtiani, Principal, Aercoustics. “Our focus on the science, combined with our investments in specific tools and accreditation mean we are well equipped to help meet the needs of the industry.”

“Not only is Aercoustics able to provide the technical expertise we need locally but they are able to mobilize and process data accurately and quickly,” said Casey Chan, Senior Environmental Advisor at Capital Power Corporation. “An accurate and quick turnaround is critical for the success of our business.”

For wind developers, noise measurements are needed to ensure people in the surrounding areas are not affected by a turbine installation and precise acoustic measurements from an accredited organization are required for warranty claims against a manufacturer, in the event that there are any noise issues with a turbine.
