Conergy Canada is presenting at the CanSIA Solar Ontario Conference and Exhibition in Niagara Falls, Ontario at the Scotiabank Convention Centre, May 29th and 30th. Conergy Canada President, Jared Donald is moderating a morning breakout session in the “Utilities and Solar” track Thursday, May 30 and Conergy Sales Manager, Tyler Balding is a panellist in the afternoon Plenary Thursday, May 30. At CanSIA Solar Canada, Conergy is sponsoring as a “Friend of CanSIA” and will be previewing its solar products and services in booth #320.
“Conergy is proud to support CanSIA and to participate in this important industry event. This is Conergy’s fifth year attending and exhibiting at Solar Ontario and we are happy to share our knowledge and expertise with the solar industry as presenters at this year’s conference. The event agenda is shaping up to provide attendees with the most up-to-date industry news and a platform to lean on stakeholders to help build a brighter solar future,” stated Jared Donald, President of Conergy Canada.
As moderator of the “Utilities and Solar” track break-out session, “Ontario’s Electricity System – The Changing Landscape and the Evolving Role of Solar Energy” Mr. Donald brings his expertise as a Professional Engineer, experience working in all aspect of the solar value and supply chain and insight into the regulatory landscape, domestic content requirements, economic policy.
The break-out session, Thursday, May 30 is for LDCs, municipalities and solar and energy industry stakeholders. The session begins at 10:45 am and will focus on Ontario’s electricity system and the changing landscape and the evolving role of solar energy. The session presenters will explore the idea of distributed generation playing a more significant role in Ontario’s electricity system. Conference planners hope attendees will take away an understanding of how solar distributed generation has changed the electricity sector in other leading renewable energy regions.
With possible utility consolidation, a regulatory framework review well underway and a more advanced or smart grid being developed in Ontario, panellist will share their thoughts on how solar energy and other distributed generation will change the electricity system landscape in Ontario. The panellist will try to illustrate what the ‘utility of the future’ may look like and how the changing Ontario landscape actually creates new opportunities for all solar stakeholders, including end user consumers, utility companies and the solar industry.
Regional Sales Manager, Tyler Balding will be a panellist on Thursday afternoon’s plenary session. To keep this session interesting, conference planners have split the plenary into two segments. The OPA officials are presenting in the “Procure …” segment while industry participants will provide their insights and responses in the “… and Deliver” segment. The industry participant responses and perspectives will follow the discussion and information provided by the OPA officials. Mr. Balding, will be participating on the panel during the “Deliver” portion of the plenary, “Follow Through on FIT 2.0,” beginning at 2:15 pm.
The plenary will focus on all things FIT 2.0 and provide essential information necessary to succeed in the increasingly competitive Ontario solar market. The industry has seen the microFIT program improved and MWs allocated. There are still questions in the industry about what is next for MicroFIT. The Small FIT application window attracted more than 800 MWs in applications with only 200 MWs to be contracted in the first window. The Large FIT window has not been opened and the industry is looking for updates regarding what may happen for this sector. Attendees will learn the latest from the OPA and other industry experts on a number of different FIT 2.0 topics.
The OPA will share updates related to microFIT, Small FIT and Large FIT, the status of the OPA Price Review, what is in store for microFIT 2.1, if another Small FIT window will open, the other 600 MWs seeking contracts, financing for small FIT, working with Aboriginal and Community Organizations, what to expect for Large FIT and how it will look and finally an update on the “Solar for Unconstructed Buildings” pilot program.
