E.ON Climate and Renewables (EC&R) North America, one of the world’s largest owners of renewable energy projects, is utilizing software developed by geoAMPS, a Columbus-area technology company, to help manage its many wind energy projects in the United States and Canada.

The Chicago-based energy company is the principal North American subsidiary of E.ON A.G., the world’s largest investor-owned utility. EC&R is using the geoAMPS software product altAMPS to help manage its wind farm projects in 16 states and two provinces of Canada. EC&R’s operational wind farms are capable of generating more than 2,700 megawatts of electricity. The company has many more projects in various stages of development.

EC&R selected altAMPS as its land management software based on its assessment that altAMPS is one of the few available software platforms with both the ability to adapt its product to the unique business needs of a wind energy developer and operator, and a business philosophy that made it willing to do so.

The altAMPS software will assist EC&R through all phases of development and operation of its wind farm projects. Operating through a Web database, altAMPS provides EC&R a number of advantages, including managing lease agreements and obligations, a royalty payment calculator, automatic payment tracking, meteorological tower management, and workflow generation.

The geoAMPS software also integrates with EC&R’s financial and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for seamless transfer of data between all systems and to further increase the audit controls and efficiencies within EC&R’s processes.
