Midwestern Roofing Icon Moves into Solar

Frederic Roofing, founded more than 80 years ago and well-known in the Midwest, announces the launch of its new solar division with the installation of two solar projects for AJ Adhesives, a national industrial adhesives manufacturer and distributor that serves the mid-western U.S.

“At Frederic Roofing, we are bringing together a tradition of American know-how in roofing with the latest technology in solar, offering business and homeowners complete solutions for their commitment to renewable energy, along with the confidence that their solar system and roofing are seamlessly integrated,” said Frederic Roofing Vice-President Gene Frederic. “AJ Adhesives in St. Louis is just one of many Midwestern companies turning to solar to lower their energy costs and address their concerns for the environment. We see a tremendous opportunity for roofing contractors, with their expertise and experience, to take the lead in the growing solar installation business across the Midwest.”

Frederic Roofing is installing two roof-mounted solar projects with a combined output of 50kW.  The first installed system at AJ Adhesives’ distribution warehouse now generates 25% of the building’s power. Over the course of a year, the system will reduce green house gas emissions by 520 tons of CO2 (which is the equivalent of planting 20,796 trees).

Frederic Roofing will also install a 25kW project at its own company headquarters in Brentwood, Missouri in December. The project will feature 108 Sharp Solar Panels and two Fronius Inverters. Solar will supply 59-percent of the power to run its warehouse and executive offices.

Renusol America’s Renusol CS60 ballasted system for flat roof installations, is manufactured in the Midwest and represents the latest innovation in solar mounting system for flat roofs. The Renusol CS60 system has been selected for both projects,  it is the industry’s first-ever ‘one unit per one PV panel’ mounting system and is changing how solar arrays are deployed on flat rooftops across America by eliminating the panel layout restrictions inherent to traditional, rigid aluminum racking rails.

The Renusol CS60 offers several solutions developed specifically for conditions in the US solar market.  It’s made from a 100% recycled HMWPE, bringing another sustainable building solution to meet this growing demand in the US building industry.  The mounting unit is a lightweight, pre-molded base with fewer parts, which means less labor-intensive installation and little to no  maintenance, resulting in  more profitable installations for solar installers.  The flexible rooftop panel layout capability gives project engineers more options for addressing wind load considerations for both new and retrofit building installations.

“The Renusol CS60 is engineered and manufactured in the Midwest, making this truly a solar solution from the Heartland,” said Renusol America CEO Bart Leusink. The product is designed with a specific shape and material strength needed to withstand the wide range of climatic conditions—extreme temperatures, ice and snow-- and other natural forces that exist across the U.S, making this ideal for installation in colder Midwestern climates.”

Clean Power Design worked as a design partner with Frederic Roofing and Birkel Electric provided the electrical contracting services on both projects.
